Marjorie Elizabeth Corbett
Although now only involved with the Prison Estate on a supportive basis, both in supervision and in various advisory contexts, I have worked in HMP establishments since 1991 as counsellor both in a paid and voluntary capacity. Between 1994 – 2013 involved as counsellor having set up counselling services in five Prisons in London as a charity-funded project for Prisoners on Remand. Then in 2098 expanding the service in HMP Wandsworth to all prisoners, then lastly after ‘retiring’ to Mid-Wales in HMP Shrewsbury. This came to an end, sadly, when HMP Shrewsbury was closed in the 2013 cuts. Over an 11 – year period at Wandsworth, I recruited a total of 59 volunteer counsellors – mostly Counselling Psychology MSc Students who gave very generously of their time and counselling skills and were very committed to the work as a team. My full-time job before retiring was, ‘Head of Counselling, Training and Supervision’ for a National Marriage Counselling Charity. I have been involved in CiPN since it started in 2007 and a trustee since the board was established.
